I can’t believe that this time last year I had my fall wardrobe fully planned and purchased. What’s happened this year? I guess I’m desperately trying to cling on to summer, my gold Stuart Weitzmann sandals, mini skirts and bare legs. I think my reluctance to start shopping for autumn clothes comes partly from being less than inspired by autumn collections. Actually, I’m bored. I’ve done the 70’s and 60’s trends several times over ever since I went crazy whilst shopping in Paris last year.
My current state of mind doesn’t exactly inspire me to go shopping but I decided to draw up a list of quality basics I‘m going to invest in this year. Because when all is said and done fashion wise, those are the clothes I will fall back on time and again:
@ Grey, cream and navy cashmere jumpers. I have a thing for crew neck men’s jumpers but Iris & Ink, The Outnet’s own label does them wonderfully as well. And at £140 they are half the price of say Eric Bompard. For men’s jumpers I’m an undying Uniqlo fan.
@ Rock’n”roll ankle boots from Zadig et Voltaire, Mexicana or Anine Bing. You know the kind- a bit worn out, quality leather, maybe dotted with silver skulls 🙂 As much as as I adore heels and spend half of my time in them, the other half is spend in flat-ish shoes so they better be chic and comfortable. The boots are probably my most urgent purchase.
@ Another pair of leather trousers. I recently discovered Anine Bing and I’m dying to put my hand on pair of her leather pants but I’m slightly reluctant to order them on line without trying them on. Balmain pair would do nicely, too but I need to keep it realistic.
@ Silk shirts from &Other Stories- and lots of them!
@ An overseized jacket, preferably by one of the Parisian labels, to go with skinny leather pants.
@ A suede bag- I’ve got an eye on a suede Phantom by Céline. It looks so chic yet so understated. It would be prefect for an every day workwear (read: I can cram in everything and the kitchen sink).
@ A studded suede mini skirt from Maje (ok, I can see a pattern emerging) to go with my cashmere jumpers and my over the knee boots from Stuart Weitzmann.
@ A cream coat- I can see it being half the time at the dry cleaners but seriously, how can one resist throwing it over a grey cashmere tee and leather pants?
So that’s my basic wardrobe done. The question is- where do I go from there? Do you know what you are going to wear this autumn? What inspires you?
