I wouldn’t be surprised if you were already considering your next winter wardrobe, what with the NY fashion week in a full swing and London, Paris and Milan still to go. Before I start swooning over my next Christmas party dress (Rodarte sparkle-feather dress anyone?) there is a small matter of spring/summer wardrobe to consider.
How is your s/s 2015 closet looking? Have you decided yet which trends you are going to be rocking? The great thing about fashion is that some trends tend to linger, sometimes for years on end, giving us an opportunity to wear our favorite pieces over and over again.
Khaki trend has been a fashion darling for a while now. No, it really is not going anywhere. Take a look at Marc Jacobs modern soldier girl in her loose khaki uniform. She’s covered up apart from a flash of her bare ankle. The more she covers up, the more sexy she seems.
I’m happy that khaki is staying for the foreseeable because I cannot think of more versatile hue. It really goes with everything- red, black, hot pink (THAT Valentino pairing is still one of my obsessions) and even blush pink (thank you J.Crew).
Those of you who read my October feature “All things pilot” you will have probably recognized this jumpsuit. It was one of that H&M purchases that just keeps giving. No wonder it was sold out within days of it hitting the stores. I actually bullied a sales assistant to reserve the last one worn by a mannequin. I kept harassing her with phone calls (I know how that sounds- bullying, harassing…I promise it’s all in the name of fashion) until she said the jumpsuit was waiting for me in the store. And I have been wearing it ever since.
I paired it with with my jacket from Burberry, which is another piece that I’ve been wearing constantly and you will see it in a myriad of combinations. I bought it in a Burberry outlet in Bicester where we went with Trish and another friend one Bank Holiday Monday (along with about 10,000 of other people who had the same idea). I salivated over Chloe tulle dress (Trish: don’t you dare buy it and wear it to my wedding!) and oohed and aahed over Valentino coat before making a beeline for Burberry and snatching the last jacket in my seize.
A quick look at Ferragamo made me think twice about those gladiator sandals in taupe. They were on offer for peanuts. I hesitated but didn’t buy them despite my gut feeling telling me to grab them and run. And once again my gut feeling proved to be a good indicator- gladiators are back with vengeance. I’m thinking of employing my gut feeling on a permanent basic.
What I like about this outfit are contrasts. First of all I like the casualness of the jumpsuit set against formality of the jacket. I also love the proportions of loose and fitted, jacket additionally cinched in the waist with a belt (nicked from my mother). I used to think that high heeled boots won’t go with the jumpsuit but those suede babies from L.K.Bennet actually go a dream. They are very elegant and low enough for me for run around all day without having to change into flats. The usual regret? I wish I had bought two pairs…
O the photo I’m wearing H&M jumpsuit, Burberry jacket, Topshop gloves and L.B Bennet ankle boots. My handbag is Chanel 2.55.
