The alarm goes off at 7:30. Then at 7:35. Then at 7:40…you get the picture. Those cold, dark January mornings are the most difficult on the getting up front.
For five blissful years as a freelance, I’d get up with The French at 8:00am, have a breakfast and a coffee with him and after a yoga or Pilates session, I’d (maybe) start working. These days it’s 8:00am hot-coffee-in-hand bus stop situation.
That means I normally have 15-20 minutes to get ready in the morning before I have to run out of the door. In the name of a longer beauty sleep I’ve simplified my beauty routine to an absolute minimum.
Recently I’ve been more than even concerned with skincare rather than make up. Whereas in my twenties I’d be piling on my face all sort of highlighters, primers and foundations, now I want to make sure my skin looks glowing even without make up. I’m not a fan of heavy foundations (although Esteé Lauder Double Wear was irreplaceable during a heavy hormonal outbreak) and I like the texture of my skin to show through. When visiting Sephora in Strasbourg back in the Autumn, I tried on Dior cushion foundation, Dream Skin Capture Totale and bought it on a spot. It has hydrating, soothing and anti-aging properties on top of being a really good yet light foundation. It looks great and feels like my skin can breath. The cushion compact also means no mess and ultra speedy morning application.
Next on is Dior Addict Lipstick in Power. I’ve been on a lookout for a red lipstick for ages and after buying several from Chanel, Nars and Mac, I found this one. If it wasn’t for a punchy colour, you could easily mistake it for a lip balm. My lips are always very dry in the winter and normally a red lippy application on chapped lips would be a no no. Yet, this lipstick is so incredibly hydrating that I use it as a lipbalm and it sorts out my lips in minutes. The added benefit of wearing red lipstick is that people automatically assume you are wearing a full face of make up.
Oribe texturing spray is a stuff I’d love to hate, largely due to it’s price. But it sorts out the most frizzy, flyaway strands and gives you that bedhead, messy yet gorgeous hair on a daily basis. I’ve searched high and low for a cheaper replacement yet I haven’t been able to find one. So Oribe it is. I try not to use it every day but this stuff is highly addictive. A quick morning application and I’m set to go.
Last but not least- perfume. So obvious. So indispensable. Here I’m trying out my mother’s Burberry yet I’m forever addicted to my Gypsy Water by Byredo.
