Since I’ve read “Two lipsticks and a lover” by Helena Firth Powell, I wanted to buy silk underwear from French brand, Sabia Rosa.
For me, a silk cami, black pencil skirt and a black cashmere cardigan were synonymous with French chic.
Helena told a story about a young French girl who was invited to a ball at Oxford University. Instead of buying a ball gown, she made a beeline for Sabia Rosa boutique in Paris, where she chose a silk nightdress. With tousled hair and a pair of delicate heels, she must have looked a dream amongst girls in heavy gowns.
I’ve always been partial to silk underwear worn as outerwear. Even to Trish’s wedding I wore a petroleum blue silk cami bought at French “boutique” in Selfridges. I paired it with a tuxedo and felt oh so stylish.
It’s not something I’d wear every day though but for a date night with The French I chose a silk Intimissimi nightdress and a vintage denim jacket. It’s not an original combo- I’ve seen it a few years ago in Vogue, way before this trend hit the high street. My jacket is slightly overtseized and I’m thinking of hacking it off at the waist. What do you think? And would you wear a nightie as a dress?
