CHAMPAGNE SPRING-CLEANING!

January is a financially tough months. Most of us find ourselves a bit broke after Christmas spending bonanza. Some decide to do a “dry January” to give our bodies a change to recover (hello liver, still holding up?).

I was a good girl in December and didn’t went overboard on partying & drinking front so I don’t have to detox but as my wallet is a bit slimmer, I have to cut down on shopping in January.

But what if I don’t want to completely postpone all the fun for a month or drink cheap wine? I have two ways of surviving the dry period with style.

Firstly, one of the best ways to save some money yet drink a decent wine is to find a good wine sale. Plenty of wine boutiques try to get rid off fine Christmas stash so you can pick up a great bottle for a song.

Secondly, I spring clean my cellar. Every year in January I have plenty of leftovers of fine Bordeaux, Burgundies and Champagne. Of course, some are for keeps for later but I don’t believe in hoarding Champagne for better tomorrow. Why not drink a bottle now, during one of the most miserable months of the year?

So this weekend I polished off one of the bubblies I got form my brother as a gift. I eyed up suspiciously this bottle of Moët & Chandon Nectar Imperial Demi Sec Champagne for a wile. This was something I would have never bought for myself, as I wouldn’t want to risk spending a whopping £40 on sweet champagne. Yet, since it was a gift I might as well try it. And you know what? It turned out to be so good that from now on it’ll be one of permanent items in my collection.

It’s sweet but not too much – the sugar is very well balanced with fizz and acids. The palate is lovely, with ripe peach, boil candy and a little floral scent. It’s a very delicious bubbly worth trying even if semi-dry champagne isn’t usually your thing.
