ESPRESSO MARTINI

How many times have you finished a meal and felt full to bursting, yet still felt a lingering, subtle dissatisfaction? Like something was missing … although even the thought of a single bite more (forget about managing a big pudding) made you feel mildly sick?

Well I may have a solution to this problem in the Espresso Martini – a delicious, creamy and rather decadent mix of vodka, coffee liqueur and espresso that gets people giggling with excitement at the mere mention of its name.

The Espresso Martini can be a lighter and fresher option to the pudding and coffee course. It’s sweet enough to give you that element of satisfaction after a dessert, but with a bitter note to cleanse your palate. Because it is made of full strength espresso it has a hefty kick of caffeine to stop the post-meal coma so it makes a brilliant substitute for a hot coffee in summer, plus the dash of vodka in it will help your digestion after a heavy meal.

Espresso Martini

Ingredients

50ml vodka

35ml coffee liqueur

1 shot (25ml) of strong espresso

Ice

Method

Pour the vodka, coffee liqueur and espresso (slightly cooled) into a cocktail shaker.  Fill the martini glass with ice to chill and then fill the cocktail shaker with ice as well.

Shake vigorously until all the ingredients are properly mixed and chilled. You want the ice to smash up while chilling the liquid down – this is what creates the frothy top.

Throw out the ice from the Martini glass, and strain the mixture directly into the glass. Garnish with 3 coffee beans or chocolate shavings.
