LADY DANGER

Do you remember your first lipstick? I do. I felt so grown up, applying matte dusky rose on my lips. Surely, it was my pass to another world? That alluring, tempting universe of womanhood, which I longed to join. A world of glamorous dresses, high heels and adventures, of glossy swinging hair and Bond-like men. They say be careful what you wish for.

My approach to make up changed over the years. From bare face to layers of foundation and back again, from black kohl to eyes sculpted by taupe eyeshadow, I’ve tried it all. I used to pile on mascara only to ditch is completely for fear of looking like a blow-up doll (I have long, fanned out eyelashes). One thing I’ve never consider leaving out of my make up bag is a lipstick.

As my collection of bags grew, so did my lipstick collection. Sometimes I carry three or four in my handbag, changing them few times a day, depending where the mood takes me. I put my hand in my bag and never know which one I will fish out. Perhaps my Chanel in Arthur, a warm classic red with orange undertones. Or seductive deep red of Rimmer in Red Fever. Or maybe Chanel in Rebel, more akin to a glossy red balm.

You see, people tend to assume I’m wearing a full face of make just because I put on a red lipstick. That’s my little secret. When the alarm goes off, I reach for my Stila Beauty Balm, my Chanel bronzer (another desert island product) and my bag. Whichever lipstick I’ll find there today is anyone’s guess.

I love how a lipstick can instantly transform your look. Think my first was like a coral lippie as i was to shy to try red but now i have several red shades and recently upgraded to a dark burgundy x
