MAX FACTOR NAIL PERFECTION

This post was suppose to be about my trip to Paris and about what I saw and what I drank and ate…. however after flicking through our blog last night I realised that Ana is already doing a great job bringing Paris closer to you, and that our website is packed full of images of this glorious city. So I decided to let it lie for a time and post a bit later when every one of us has forgotten about summer and holidays, and the gloom of autumn will require some spirit lifting.

I am therefore stepping outside my comfort zone of wine and food to write about nail varnish. The fact that I rarely write about clothes and cosmetics doesn’t mean that I don’t use them. I have wanted to write this post for a while, pretty much since I discovered Max Factor nail varnish. I’m terrible at doing my own manicure and most of time I end up with an awful mess. I hate doing it, much preferring to go to a studio to have it done professionally. Plus I live rather a busy life and have not the time every day to spend two hours doing my nails. A professional manicure is stronger and lasts longer. In my occupation it’s a must. Believe me the wine business is not manicure friendly….

There have been occasions, though, when I have needed my hands to look top class but haven’t had time to pop into the manicurist – so I had to do my nails myself…. usually these were times of dread. On average, nine times out of ten I made a terrible job of it. I can’t count how many times I had to “fix” one or two nails, in which case I usually bothered my hubby to take the ruined varnish off, driving him profoundly nuts for having to deal with it, or I had to repeat the whole process again, driving myself crazy with frustration – or both of us… you know… when we are supposed to be out of the door in twenty minutes and I’m not even close to approaching being ready.

I won’t be telling you how to do a manicure at home; there are plenty of other blogs and YouTube videos covering that subject. Instead I want to tell you about a product which I’m really fond of because it makes my life easier.

On one of those days when I needed to do the terrifying job for myself, of course I ran out of nail varnish, “never prepared in advance” – that’s me… I’m a kinda last minute girl. So I had to run out and get it from a local pharmacy. They weren’t very well stocked up with beauty products and had only a Max Factor stand. Not having much choice I grabbed the best colour they had without really looking at what it was.

What I bought was Max Factor Glossfinity in dusk-rose pink, which after the first application proved to be a revelation. Really easy and smooth, but we all know it’s the second coat that’s tricky. At least it is for me – this is when I usually make a mess of the whole thing. And here was a true miracle. The second coat was perfectly smooth, no wrinkles, no bumps and with a lovely shiny gloss. It dried relatively fast too, not giving me a chance to ruin it with my impatience. Really, it was studio perfect. No need for fixing. I’m sure there are better, more expensive nail polishes on the market but in my experience only Dior is equally easy for me to apply.

This nail varnish is for busy and clumsy girls with no patience. I still hate to do my manicure alone but at least these days it’s not so stressful. I suspect my husband likes it as well since he doesn’t have to participate any more in “manicure operations”. However there is one negative side to this product. It’s a bit thick and dries really quickly in the bottle. Unless you are a pro I don’t think you will be able to use more that a third of the bottle before is ruined. It’s great stuff but it can end up a bit costly if you have to get a new one after a couple of uses. I’m willing to pay as its saves me a lot of stress and hassle, but if you object to waste it might not be the best choice.

    Very nice colours 🙂

  3. That sounds so good, like you I pay to get mine done, but it’s not always convenient to do that, so having this in reserve for mani emergencies sounds perfect! xx
