As you have all probably seen by now, Ana is relaxing in beautiful Paris this week. I’ll join her within 2 days. I have never been to Paris before and can’t wait to see it finally. You know how it is, if something is really near by you will probably never end up visiting it…people who have lived in London whole their lives have often never been to the British Museum but have seen the pyramids in Egypt…
Pimm’s No 1 is a liquor based on gin with spices and herbs first made in 1850’s by Mr Pimm in his oyster bar in the City of London, near the Bank of England and sold by him as a tonic for digestion. Soon enough the concoction became famous and the Oyster House started commercial production. Since then Pimm’s no 1 has become one of the most famous summer drinks in Brittan. However now, instead drinking it as “tonic” we make a sort off fruity punch, based on the Pimm’s liquor with lemonade and lots of summer fruit. This is a really lovely and fresh drink, perfect for any summer party and a big friend of barbeque dishes.
So, how to make a Pimm’s cocktail?
There is no strict recipe for this punch, everyone has their own way. Therefor treat this recipe more as a rough guideline than a fixed formula.
1 part of Pimm’s No1
3 parts lemonade – you can use half and half lemonade and ginger ale as I sometimes do.
Fruits and herbs of your choice chopped in to big chunks: apple, summer berries: strawberries, blueberries raspberries, lemon, lime orange, cucumber and a handful of fresh mint.
Additional alcohol if you like to “spice it up”:
gin, vodka or spiced rum (I use both rum and gin about 50ml of each per 1.5 litre jug )
How to make it:
Fill the jug with ice, add the fruits and herbs, pour the Pimm’s and lemonade in and stir it, taste, and top up with additional spirits if you like. Done!
Serve the cocktail in tumblers, for the beautiful visual effect you can put bits of fruit and some mint in to individual glass before hand.
