Halloween is this weekend so I thought it would be appropriate to give you a couple more party hits which you might like to use this weekend. Both cocktails are classics, very easy to make, delicious and very suitable for Halloween parties!
One of the most famous cocktails in the world and one of my favourites. It’s not only the taste I like but also its sexy colour. Cosmo always looks so elegant and appealing: cranberry-red in a Martini glass misted with condensation… It may sound funny but I always feel more uptown and sophisticated when I’m drinking one, especially if I am wearing a nice cocktail dress.
1½ shot* of vodka (make sure that you use a good quality vodka for this cocktail)
½ shot of orange liqueur (I use Cointreau)
1 shot of cranberry juice
A good squeeze – or as I do, a ½ shot – of fresh lime juice
A twist of orange peel to garnish, or sugar crystals on the glass rim
How to make it:
First prepare the glasses and garnish. This is a Martini style cocktail and the idea is that it has to be served as quickly and as cold as possible. Chill the glasses by putting them in to the fridge or fill them with ice and water for a couple of minutes; if you are planning to put sugar on the rim you will need to do that as well before putting the glasses into the fridge.
Now put the spirits, lime and cranberry juice into the cocktail shaker and fill with ice. Shake hard and then strain into the chilled and decorated Martini glass. Garnish with orange peel.
Negroni is sometimes called the older brother of the Americano I gave you before (October 2nd 2014). The only difference is that you add gin or whisky in to the original mix and skip the soda water.
This is a very dry and bitter drink and therefore is perfect as an apéritif.
1 shot* of gin
1 shot of sweet vermouth
1 shot of Aperol or Campari
Slice of orange
How to make it:
Pour gin, vermouth and Aperol into a chilled whisky glass over ice. Garnish with a slice of orange.
